Aviation and the Impacts of Climate Change ∙ Maintaining Aviation Safety: Regulatory Responses to Intensifying Weather Events

Herbert Pümpel

Climate change is likely to lead to a higher incidence of extreme weather events, and may change the regional distribution of those events. Aviation regulators may wish to take action to reduce exposure to such events, and to provide robust safety procedures when such exposures do occur. New meteorological services will be needed, and regulators may consider new, risk-based approaches to safety that impact stakeholders ranging from manufacturers to consumers.
