re growth in greenhouse gas emissions is expected to come from developing countries because of their rapid economic development and expansion of energy-intensive industries.1 The deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in these countries could play an important role in the mitigation of these emissions. Moreover it is estimated that, given the location of major oil and gas fields (constituting potential sites for the storage of CO2) in developing countries,2 the “bulk of emission reductions from CCS by 2050” could take place there.3
