CCS-Technology: Implications for New Power Plants under German and European Law
In the attempt to restrain global warming to a temperature rise of 2°C and to cut down CO2-emissions, the development of so-called “clean” coal-fired power plants using CCStechnology is considered to be an important “bridging-technology”. Despite the fact that CCS is still at an early stage of development and may only reach marketability in about 10–20 years, operators of new coal-fired power plants may consider to build their power plants to be “CCS-Ready” already today. This article assesses the “incentives” for operators of new power plants to prepare their facilities for a later use of CCS-technology.
